The current design for this portfolio was essentially my first stab at creating a portfolio. Over the past few weeks I've adjusted the layout slightly and changed the colors several times, but the core design is the same as when I launched with only three items and some inexact knowledge about what a visitor might be looking for.
Now, after receiving considerable feedback—and with enough free time to do a better job—I'm remaking my portfolio. This is a work in progress, and I expect to update this page regularly as work progresses.
Problems with the Current Design
Although it does have some merits, the existing portfolio design is largely ineffective. I believe that the content, navigation, and layout all have significant room for improvement.
Planning a Redesign
Based on feedback and self-analysis, I believe the three most important goals are to communicate the 'big picture' of the portfolio, to address concerns about relevance, and to increase the average visit duration.
Design Artifacts
I'm sketching and exploring several alternative site organizations and layouts. I've done a lot of tweaking and idea-tossing, and I'm now starting to build a mockup of the top design.
